Words offer precise control over the expression of intricate meanings - they have the power to inform, persuade and deceive. However, the meanings intended by a writer are not always those drawn by a reader. Words complemented with pictures communicate on levels beyond language where nothing is lost in translation.

Painting

While pictures can be powerfully informed and supplemented by words, by themselves they have no need of translation. Translating things into words is an act of division and the cause of fragmentation. To look at the world without naming things is to see things as they are.

Jeremy Youngs - )wl, ophicleide, pipes and drum (oil on canvas, 2006)

I love this painting. It reminds me of Twin Peaks. Mr Youngs is an intrepid Agent Cooper exploring a fantastic landscape where everything has a hidden depth. The painting speaks in a strange language. It whispers of the extraordinary dimensions existing beyond mundane reach - the spaces in between - my favourite destination.
